Part 40 — Japji Sahib: Blazing knowledge....
Pauri 36: Blazing knowledge, inner beauty, and the reshaping of the mind
Where we are in Japji
Pauri 35 opened Giaan Khand by widening the mind beyond its small world.
Now Pauri 36 deepens that movement: first knowledge blazes, then Japji turns to Saram Khand — the stage where the person is being shaped, refined, and inwardly made beautiful.

Plain-English sense rendering
(A learning aid — not a “final translation.”)
In the realm of knowledge, knowledge blazes.
There, deep sound, delight, and countless joys are alive.
Then comes Saram Khand: the stage whose very shaping is beauty.
There, the human being is being formed into something rare and beautiful.
What happens there cannot really be described.
If someone tries to speak it as if they have captured it, they regret the attempt.
There, awareness, discernment, mind, and intelligence are shaped.
There, a higher clarity is formed — the kind associated with spiritual strength and the insight of the siddhas.
Learning focus
1) Giaan Khand is not dry information
The first two lines do not describe a cold, abstract intellect.
They describe knowledge as luminous, alive with sound, delight, and joy.
Real knowledge expands the being; it does not merely stuff the head.
2) Saram Khand is where the person is reshaped
This is not self-punishment.
It is formation.
As understanding widens, old narrowness drops away and the person begins to be re-made in generosity, beauty, and a new inward alertness.
3) The deepest changes resist performance
“ਤਾ ਕੀਆ ਗਲਾ ਕਥੀਆ ਨਾ ਜਾਹਿ” protects the seeker from ego.
The more real the inward shift, the less available it is for spiritual display.
That is why the next line says: if someone tries to boastfully describe it, they regret the attempt.
4) The inner faculties are being re-made
The pauri does not merely say “you feel peaceful.”
It says surat, mat, man, budh are shaped.
Attention changes.
Discernment changes.
Mind changes.
Intelligence changes.
Key word reminders
Giaan Khand: the realm or stage of widened knowledge
Saram Khand: the realm or stage of effortful inner shaping
Naad / Binod / Anand: deep sound, delight, joy
Ghaarhat / Gharee-ai: moulding, shaping, formation
Surat / Mat / Man / Budh: awareness, discernment, mind, understanding
One Anchor
Real knowledge does not just inform me — it reshapes me.
10-second practice
For ten seconds, ask:
Where am I collecting spiritual ideas without letting them shape my actual mind?
Then ask one harder question:
What in me most needs re-forming right now — my attention, my discernment, my reactions, or my courage?
Pick one small act today that belongs to shaping:
pause before reacting,
tell the truth cleanly,
listen longer than your ego wants,
or do one quiet act of service that makes you inwardly more beautiful.
No performance. Just formation.

SGGS location: Ang 7–8 (Japji Sahib, Pauri 36)
Pauri begins: "ਗਿਆਨ ਖੰਡ ਮਹਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਰਚੰਡੁ ॥"
Pauri ends: "ਤਿਥੈ ਘੜੀਐ ਸੁਰਾ ਸਿਧਾ ਕੀ ਸੁਧਿ ॥੩੬॥"
Cross-check instruction:
Open Ang 7 and Ang 8 on two independent SGGS databases and compare the Gurmukhi character-for-character.
Confirm that:
Pauri 35 ends immediately before with ॥੩੫॥
Pauri 36 contains these eight lines exactly
The pauri spans the Ang 7–8 page break (verify the exact break point against an SGPC-standard saroop)
Pauri 37 begins immediately after with "ਕਰਮ ਖੰਡ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਜੋਰੁ ॥"
If you ever spot a mismatch (Gurmukhi, Romanisation, or Ang), we will correct it publicly and calmly.
Next post teaser
Next is Pauri 37 (Part 41) — and Japji moves into Karam Khand:
The language there is strength.
There dwell the great spiritual warriors.
And the One is fully present within them.
